Late start Wednesday - Coding Class offered

Posted By Administrator, Monday, August 31, 2015

Looking for a late start Wednesday enrichment class, CLICK HERE

CODING CLASSES ARE BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

Hello Lincoln Middle School Parents and Students!

Many of you have inquired about when the next coding course will begin.

The Coding School is excited to being this year’s Coding Classes –
JavaScript Coding: Drawing & Animation I & II -- on September 30th at 9am – 9:50am.  (newcomers to coding are welcome)

(See attached flyer for details)

As many of you are aware, I am a senior at Brown University, and recently completed an internship at The White House in the Office of Innovation and Technology.  I founded The Coding School because I was upset with the lack of preparation and exposure in our country's education system to the most important language and skillset of the 21st century:  computer programming.

Luckily, your school is among the first in the country to offer this opportunity for coding classes to middle school students – a huge advantage for students at Lincoln!  Learning how to code is like learning a foreign language or learning algebra; it’s hard, but the earlier one starts to learn, the easier it becomes.  While I can’t promise your children will enjoy coding class more than soccer club or musical theater class, I can promise you that one day in the not-too-distant future when your children are able to be self-starters and entrepreneurs (or to  work in The White House) because of their coding skills, they will be thanking you for putting them into coding classes.

Space is limited, so if you would like to secure a spot in the class, begin registration at: http://tinyurl.com/qfodwfk  (students with financial need may contact Lincoln Middle School counselors).

If you have questions about the class, please contact TCS staff at:  LM-thecodingschool@outlook.com

Thank you, and I look forward to working with your children again this year and introducing many more to the wonderful world of coding!

Sincerely,

Kiera Peltz

LEARN TO FENCE

Posted By Administration, Monday, August 24, 2015

Avant Garde Fencers Club

Olympic fencing, originally an ancient sport, combines today’s classical combat with modern technology. For centuries fencing was widely practiced at traditional European schools in France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Russia. The sport has enjoyed growing popularity in the USA mainly in the last decade, after US saber fencers Mariel Zagunis and Sada Jacobson medaled at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. The US Fencing Team won more medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games. Even President Obama was inspired to fence at the White House with one of US Olympians, Tim Morehouse. Today fencing is truly an international sport.

Santa Monica Youth Running Club

Posted By Karen Rigberg, Friday, April 24, 2015

Hi,

My name's Justin Sardo and I'm a 2014 Samohi grad and current freshman at Williams College. At Samo, I was a top varsity cross-country and mid-distance runner and a team captain in both cross-country and track. I've been coaching running, both privately and in groups for four years.

I started the Santa Monica Youth Running Club three years ago in order to bridge the gap between middle school and high school athletics. The program provides running instruction, strength training, and instruction in stretching and injury prevention - all in a fun, group setting. Middle school athletes looking to get fit as well as those looking towards a future in varsity athletics will find a place in SMYRC. Plus, the cost is by donation, so financial situation should not be a concern.

Past clients include several top varsity runners on the current Samohi girls cross-country and track teams.

The first session begins June 8th. All info is included on our flyer, which is posted on our Facebook page, or which I can send upon request. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if interested.

Best,
Justin

Home Run for Kids (benefiting Upward Bound House)

Posted By Administration, Thursday, January 8, 2015
On Sunday, February 8th, 2015, Upward Bound House, based in Santa Monica and focused on fighting family homelessness, will be presenting the third annual Home Run for Kids 5K, 10K and Kiddie K in the Brentwood community of West Los Angeles. We are excited to announce that registration is now open! Just click here to get started: www.HomeRunForKids.com/register.  Please join us again if you were there last year!  Last year, close to 30 people from Lincoln ran and we are hoping from more this year!!!!  Prizes!!!!

The event includes food, a family fun expo and a stroller and dog friendly chip-timed course that can be walked or run. The course is a loop on beautiful San Vicente in Brentwood.  Please select team Lincoln when you register.

All proceeds will benefit Upward Bound House, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Upward Bound House’s mission is to eliminate family homelessness in Los Angeles.  Upward Bound House has established an extraordinary record of success in addressing family homelessness. Since 1997, we have helped more than 800 families – including over 1,600 children – transition from homelessness into permanent housing. Over 95% of these families were still in their homes a year after placement.   Any questions?  Please contact Ysette Witteveen at ysette@yahoo.com.  Thank you.
