Tennis for all ages

Posted By Michele Warnock, Sunday, November 10, 2013
I discovered an amazing place at 2505 Wilshire in Santa Monica. It's a private tennis court tucked behind a small office. They offer group and private instruction for kids and adults, personal training, stringing, and free use of demo racquets.

VARSITY LACROSSE AT SAMOHI?

Posted By Administration, Sunday, September 15, 2013
CIF varsity lacrosse is coming to Santa Monica High School this coming season, spring 2014 – as long as we raise $50,000 in the next three weeks.  This is a huge task, but together we can do it!  Here’s what you can do to pitch in:

1.  Make a tax-deductible donation to the program by clicking this linkhttp://www.imathlete.com/donate/SamohiLacrosseGirlsandBoys.  100% of these donations will go directly to the Samohi girls and boys lacrosse teams.  Please help us by donating and/or fundraising:

$1,000 if you are a current Santa Monica High School family (you won’t need to pay Spring 2014 registration fees!)
$500 if you are a Santa Monica middle school family
$250 if you are a Santa Monica elementary school family
$100 or more for all other supporters of Samohi lacrosse

Any amount will help!  Your donation will provide the seed money to establish the legacy of Santa Monica High School Lacrosse, champions for many years to come!

2.  Solicit tax-deductible donations from friends, families, and business associates – they can go directly to the same link above.  Make sure they know that varsity lacrosse is a way to give kids self-confidence and a sense of community, teaches them values like teamwork, dedication, and hard work, keeps them engaged, focused and striving to do their best, and improves graduation rates.  Wow!

3.  Run the Santa Monica 5000 5k/10k on October 6 – register at http://www.santamonica5000.com.  $5.00 of your entry fee will go to Samohi girls and boys lacrosse, and by registering as a fundraiser, you can ask grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles, and the lacrosse family down the street to make a donation in your name to Samohi lacrosse (details to follow).

4.  Attend the Santa Monica Vikings Youth Lacrosse fundraising party on September 21 at 6:00 p.m.  This is a great way to meet the Santa Monica Lacrosse community, and the $25 suggested donation will go directly to Samohi girls and boys lacrosse (details to follow).

GO VIKINGS!

Crest Summer Camps

Posted By Kathy Zurich-Lunsford, Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Enrolling for Summer City Camps Now!

Looking for something for your kids to do this summer?  Give one of CREST’s convenient and affordable City Camps a try!

Camps begin June 12.  Full- and half-day camps are offered at multiple locations for youth ages 8-14.  All camps take weekly excursions to theme parks and local attractions.  Outing transportation and daily lunch are included.  Choose a camp that best fits your and your child(ren)’s needs.

Santa Monica Sports Experience has a new line-up this summer!  A different sport or organized game is highlighted each week, including the annual Pinewood Derby Race where participants can design, build and race their own car!  Additional weekly themes are virtual sports gaming, lacrosse, black-top hockey, dodge ball and more.  Both full- or half-day options are available at John Adams Middle School.

Wrap-Around Camp provides a fun, action-packed summer camp experience at McKinley Elementary School for your 4th or 5th grader who is attending summer school.  Participants stay onsite and easily transition from their summer school classrooms to a half-day camp featuring sports, games and special events.

Camp Santa Monica at Virginia Avenue Park offers four innovative specialty groups that will give your child the opportunity to explore his or her own personal interests.  Campers can sign up for a full-day or week of Art Extravaganza, Fit & Fun, Science Solvers or the ever popular, Water Adventures where the name of the game is getting wet!

Generous Financial Assistance subsidizing up to 90% of camp fees are available to qualifying Santa Monica residents based on a sliding scale.  Nonresidents attending summer school at McKinley Elementary School are eligible while summer school is in-session only.  Low- to moderate-income families are encouraged to apply prior to registration.  To receive an application, visit www.smgov.net/financialassistance.

Weekly costs for half-day are $123 for residents and $133 for nonresidents.  Weekly costs for full-day are $200 for residents and $220 for nonresidents.  Extended care in the early morning and evenings are available for an additional $35 per week.

For more information, contact the City of Santa Monica’s Youth Office located at Reed Park at 310-458-8540.  Enroll online now at www.smgov.net/recenroll
