Powerhouse Energy and Electricity Workshops

Posted By Karen Rigberg, Monday, March 10, 2014
The Santa Monica Public Library Teen Advisory Council presents "Powerhouse," a day of energy- and electricity-based craft workshops for ages 8 and up, on Saturday, March 15 at the Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Middle- and high-schoolers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The workshops (to be taught by Teen Advisory Council members) are:

  • o   Solar Ovens. 10:30 a.m. (90 minutes). Learn to make a solar oven out of a pizza box that you can use to make s’mores or bake cookies using the power of the sun.
  • o   Light-Up Cuff Bracelets. 1 p.m. (90 minutes). Use LED lights, a battery and conductive thread to create a cuff bracelet that lights up. (Involves simple hand-sewing with embroidery needles.)
  • o   Bristlebots. 3 p.m. (90 minutes). Build a simple robot from parts including a familiar household item – the toothbrush!

Registration is required. Space is limited. Sign up for one workshop, or all three. Parents are welcome, but due to the electronic components used, no kids younger than 8 will be allowed in the room.

To register or for more information, please visit the Main Library Youth Services Desk, or call (310) 458-8621.

This event is free!

Please contact me with any questions. Thank you!
