Alternative Ways to Get to School
Share |

What? There are other ways for my kid to get to Lincoln instead of dropping him off in our family car?

We’re lucky to live in a neighborhood and city that makes walking, biking, skateboarding and scootering pleasant and fun.

Why not encourage your kids to develop these beneficial habits early in life by walking or biking to school?

The City of Santa Monica supports walking and biking to school through a network of bike paths and good sidewalks. Download a map of routes around Lincoln Middle School.

The City of Santa Monica and the Police Department have published an informative brochure called Smart Cycling in Santa Monica, featuring safety tips and rules of the road for cyclists.

And more information about local resources are here: City of Santa Monica Biking and Walking Resources

Bike It! Walk It!

Twice a year (fall and spring) Lincoln participates in a district-wide initiative called Bike It! Walk It! Day. You'll hear more about these events as they happen. Please encourage your child to participate. It's fun, and there are incentives to do so.

For more information:

If you are passionate (or even mildly interested) about the benefits of walking and biking around town, contact Committee Chair Teague Weybright and consider joining Lincoln's PTSA Bike It! Walk It! committee.

And finally:

For those who are tied to vehicle drop-offs, please consider carpooling or checking out local city buses. And the administration would be very grateful if you would drop your kids off one to two blocks away from Lincoln to ease the morning congestion around the gates of the school.
